The Miraculous Download

February 16, 2007

It’s time for another moment of showing pride in the organization I work for. And once again, it is about Beyond the Score. I can’t help but getting back to this wonderful initiative and this time you can find out for yourself whether you should take me seriously or not.

Starting today, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is offering a free download of its Beyond the Score concert featuring Bartok’s Miraculous Mandarin, conducted by Pierre Boulez. Nothing, of course, can quite capture the live experience (especially when you consider the sound), but the video does a good job of showing how the program flows.

Beyond the Score

The CSO took this program to Carnegie Hall last December and the New Yorkers were quite impressed. The New York Philharmonic is now presenting two Beyond the Score programs in their 2007-2008 season: Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 4 (my personal favorite so far) and Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben (the first concert I saw after I got hired).
