New sidebar items and updates
I have added two new sidebar features in an effort to create a better blog. The first one is the del.icio.us bookmarks item. Instead of creating a new blog post for bookmarked items, I decided to simply list them in the sidebar. I think this way I will use del.icio.us more often and more effectively, because before I was afraid to post a link if it was the only link to show up in a blogpost. I didn’t want to clutter up the blog and RSS feed with just del.icio.us posts.
The second item I have added is a Flickr feed, showing the four most recent Flickr photos that are tagged with “dutchperspective.” This is an effort to make the blog more visually appealing. Besides, I have had a Flickr account for ages, but never used it. Mainly because of my own photo gallery software (found here). Using Flickr, I won’t clutter up my self-hosted photo gallery with random images, such as the Second Life images posted recently.
I have also posted a LinkedIn button to promote my profile. Also, I think my static Web site might change soon. I might just completely take down many sections of that site and start emphasizing the dynamic and social content I have created elsewhere, such as my Flickr and del.icio.us feeds, my LinkedIn profile etc. In a similar fashion as the whole “lifestream” concept (described here by Steve Rubel).
