Golijov in Vienna by Teju Cole
Via Alex Ross’s blog I was drawn to a post by Teju Cole on his blog modal minority. He describes a dream-like occurrence involving small and windy alleys in Vienna and a clarinet quintet by Osvaldo Golijov.
As he writes about seeing “people being forcibly led from their homes in the middle of this hot summer’s night,” while listening to the Golijov composition, the reader discovers he’s standing in Vienna’s Judenplatz.
Cole also offers a snippet of the quintet. Listen to it, and you will be immersed in the vision and place yourself in Vienna as well. At least, I was. It’s quite extraordinary.
