More updates and more visitors

Visits to my Web site and this blog have really picked up over the last month. I suspect this is due to some features I have added. Most visible of the features is the FeedBurner feed and all its accessories: easy buttons to add my feed to your Google, MSN and Yahoo! pages among others, statistics, “email this” and “add to del.icio.us” links, and email subscription.

The e-mail subscription ran into some problems with Hotmail accounts, as the validation link was cut off. Just copy and paste the link. The staff of FeedBurner has been really responsive and helpful on the company’s forum. It might be that Midwestern friendliness.

I have also just added Google Analytics after I requested and received an invitation. I am anxious to see if I will learn more about my audience; it looks promising. The Web hosting service I am currently using has statistics as well, but not as extensive as Google looks to be.

In a minor update, I added a “home” button on my main Web site for easier navigation. And lastly, I have created a sub domain for my photo gallery application, which can now be found at http://photos.mcmvanbree.com and includes some new photos. I’m still not sure how I will use the RSS feed for this application, if there is any use for it in the first place.

I have one regret; if I would have learned about A List Apart sooner, I would have attempted to create my entire main Web site’s layout with CSS. The designers for this online magazine really created a timeless design that is as structurally sound as I have ever seen. No tables!
