More than 1,000 unique visitors and going strong

March 28, 2007

This month is the first month my Web site has seen over 1,000 unique visitors. For a couple of months it came excruciatingly close, hitting 982 in December 2006 and 992 in January 2007. And although March is not over yet—we still have three more days—there have been nearly 1,300 unique visitors already. I started...

A week in Texas

March 27, 2007

I spent all of last week in Texas, mostly in Austin. I didn’t go to South by Southwest and a planned trip to Antone’s didn’t happen either. So much for going to the live music capitol capital (yikes!) of the world. I spent the week mostly relaxing. A bit of running, a bit of biking...

Classic tale of how not to approach blogger relations, and other news

March 16, 2007

This morning I read in a Dutch paper that the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam received a subsidy of 2 million Euros from the province of North-Holland. Just to renovate the hallways, bathrooms and coat room. How wonderful to see that in some countries, arts organizations do get the support they need from the government. In other...

Three quotes for today

March 15, 2007

Today, these three quotes piqued (not peaked) my interested. The are not related in any way, but I think they nicely show the variety of sources I read daily. (And I don’t have the time to post anything longer.) “In retrospect, I should not have had guns in the home.” -  Terry “Tank” Johnson “Number one, we...

Translating Dutch poetry

March 6, 2007

A while ago, someone at work approached me because his friend would love to go over some poetry translations with a native Dutch speaker. This friend, Stephen Frech, is working on translations of poems by Menno Wigman. Last night I had the second multi-hour session of delving deep into the poetry. Although I speak both...

Books for young people

March 3, 2007

Forward’s latest Podcast covers the importance of reading. I agree. Reading is one of the most important things public relations practitioners, or anyone for that matter, can do. I happened to have recently compiled a list of books I read when I was younger. When I visited the Netherlands last December, a movie version...

A debut of some sort

March 2, 2007

Last night I made a debut of some sort. I was a guest lecturer at my former teacher’s class at Columbia College. I met Dominic Calabrese through an independent project in college and he later invited me to do an internship at his organization, the Chicago Lighthouse. He teaches a non-profit public relations class...
